Having been under construction, Pune’s double-decker flyover near the SPPU will be fully open to traffic from January 15, 2026. The flyover will help resolve the longstanding congestion issues observed
along the corridor spanning Shivajinagar, Aundh, Baner and Pashan.
Partial ramps of the flyover have already been made operational for vehicles. Commuters travelling via the Shivajinagar-Aundh ramp have had some relief in recent days. The Baner-end ramp, currently under work, is set for completion by the end of December, while the Pashan ramp is expected to be ready by early next year.
Once fully operational, the flyover will significantly reduce congestion in Pune city. Due to prolonged delays in ramp inaugurations, residents remain cautious about the project. Many are also excited about the double-decker flyover, ensuring smooth mobility without further travel disruptions.
Metro Line 3
In another great development for Pune’s commuters, the PMRDA’s planned 23.3 km fully elevated Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 project will also be completed and made operational in a single phase by March 2026. The line will connect 23 stations with the PMRDA’s existing metro network. Requests had been made for a phased opening of Line 3, but the PMRDA has decided to inaugurate it in a single phase.
As many as 10 of the 23 stations have already seen construction work completed. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Tata Group-led Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd. Once fully operational, the Metro Line 3 will significantly bolster the city’s urban transit network.
Construction Timeline
Beginning in August 2022, the flyover construction was green flagged by PMRDA after signing a supplementary concession agreement with the metro concessionaire. Officials have confirmed that the project remains well on track.
Another decongestion breakthrough for Pune locals and vehicle owners could be the Mhalunge-Mann scheme, which is expected to be finally approved soon. Originally announced in 2018, the scheme will witness multiple development initiatives and attract investors.
On approval, the PMRDA plans to accelerate clearances for around 15 pending town projects and speed up urban development in the city. Together, the flyover, the extended metro network and town projects will significantly improve Pune’s traffic mobility and infrastructure.
