The Congress on Thursday named VD Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala. His name as Kerala CM was announced at a press conference in New Delhi by AICC in-charge of Kerala, Deepa Dasmunshi, and
the party’s central observers for the state, Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik.
Known for his sharp debating skills, legal expertise, and long political journey, Satheesan has built a reputation as one of the most influential leaders inKerala politics over the past two decades.
VD Satheesan Education Qualification, Profile
Born and raised in North Paravur in Ernakulam district, Satheesan entered public life through student politics at a young age. He was actively associated with the Kerala Students’ Union (KSU), the student wing of the Indian National Congress, and later became Chairman of the MG University Union. His political rise continued through the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), where he served as secretary.
Before entering full-time politics, Satheesan worked as a practising lawyer at the Kerala High Court. His academic background reflects his strong interest in law and public affairs. He completed his school education in Nettur and Panangad before pursuing degree studies at Sacred Heart College, Thevara, in Ernakulam. He later earned a postgraduate diploma in Social Service from Rajagiri College of Social Sciences.
Satheesan completed his LLB from the Law Academy in Thiruvananthapuram and later obtained an LLM from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. His legal training and communication skills helped shape his image as a powerful speaker in the Kerala Assembly, where he frequently raised major public issues and policy concerns.
Elected from North Paravur in 2001, Satheesan steadily emerged as a key face of the Congress in Kerala. Apart from legislative politics, he has also been active in trade union movements across the industrial belt of Kochi. Widely regarded as an articulate parliamentarian, he has received recognition from several Malayali organisations in India and abroad.
