Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished activist Sonam Wangchuk a speedy recovery after he ended his 26-day hunger strike, urging him to strictly follow medical advice and regain his health as soon
as possible.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “I urge Sonam ji to follow his routine as per the doctors’ advice and regain his old weight as soon as possible.”
Expressing concern for Wangchuk’s well-being, PM Modi added, “I pray to the Lord that Sonam ji remains healthy.”

The Prime Minister’s message came shortly after Wangchuk announced that he had ended his fast after 26 days in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, along with senior leaders of the Apex Body of Leh Ladakh, at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital.
Wangchuk Announces End Of 26-Day Fast
In a post on X, Sonam Wangchuk said he had broken his hunger strike after prolonged discussions with the Centre and in view of the prevailing situation in the country.
“Just now in the presence of Union Ministers Sh. JP Nadda, Dr Jitendra Singh and the senior leaders of Apex Body of Leh Ladakh, I finally broke my fast after 26 days,” Wangchuk wrote.
He revealed that 65 Members of Parliament from different political parties had either visited him or signed letters urging him to end the fast.
Explaining the decision, Wangchuk said the move came “after long negotiations on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country.”
The activist added that he would soon release a separate video explaining the conditions agreed upon during the negotiations. Until then, he appealed to people to remain peaceful and vigilant.
“Meanwhile, I urge you all to stay very vigilant about not allowing violence of any kind anywhere,” he said.

Wangchuk had earlier been shifted from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital to Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital following directions from the Delhi High Court.
It was at Medanta that he formally ended his 26-day hunger strike in the presence of the two Union ministers and representatives of the Apex Body of Leh Ladakh.
The development marks a significant breakthrough after days of discussions between government representatives and those associated with Wangchuk’s protest.
Centre Had Reiterated Willingness For Dialogue
Even before Wangchuk announced the end of his fast, the Centre had reiterated its readiness to engage in discussions with stakeholders.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the government had sent multiple formal proposals for talks and emphasised that it was willing to hold discussions at any mutually convenient time.
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has also been spearheading nationwide protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, maintained that it had not received any formal communication from the government but remained open to talks at Jantar Mantar or a neutral venue.
On Thursday, PM Modi had announced that the Union Cabinet would take up a draft Bill proposing Fast-Track Courts and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.
He said the government had already arrested those responsible and remained committed to taking stricter action to protect students’ interests.
