Soon after reports of strikes on an oil refinery in Iran despite a ceasefire, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Wednesday warned that Tehran will respond to “any aggression at an even higher level”.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards issued this statement after hitting targets in the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, as well as west Asian countries Israel and Jordan.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Iran hit 25 targets in different countries as it does not trust the United States and still has a “finger on the trigger”.
“The enemy has always resorted to deceit, and we have no trust in its promises. We will respond to any aggression at an even higher level,” the IRGC said on its Telegram channel.
The IRGC called on all the Gulf countries to end their “cooperation” with the US. “The Iranian nation’s dedicated guards are listening to the orders of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, His Holiness Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, and their finger is on the trigger,” it said.
The statement came after Iran attacked Kuwait and the UAE after strikes on its oil facilities as per state television. Tehran launched missile and drone attacks on the two Gulf countries after airstrikes against oil facilities on the Lavan island in the morning.
“Missile and drone attacks on the Emirates and Kuwait have taken place a few hours after the targeting of Lavan island oil facilities in Iran,” IRIB said in a report.
According to state TV, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said the Lavan Oil Refinery facility on the island “was subjected to a cowardly attack”.
In its response to the Iranian attacks, Kuwait urged Tehran and its allied groups to “immediately cease all hostilities”. This wave of attacks was reported hours into a fragile truce between the US and Iran.
Kuwait’s foreign ministry welcomed the ceasefire announcement and stressed “the need for the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies… to immediately cease all hostilities”.
