Fast bowler Gurnoor Brar bowled his full quota of 10 overs for India in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Afghanistan on Wednesday (June 17) and returned figures of 3 for 60.
He opened
his wicket account by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the third ball of the eighth over of Afghanistan’s innings and later bowled skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi on the fifth ball of the 25th over. Gurnoor then cleaned up Mohammad Saleem Safi on the final ball of the 40th over to claim his second three-wicket haul of the series.
The 26-year-old pacer from Punjab, who made his ODI debut for India against Afghanistan on June 13, 2026, had picked up 3 wickets for 27 runs in 4.5 overs in his maiden appearance.

By taking three wickets in each of his first two ODI matches, Gurnoor entered the record books. He became only the second Indian bowler after Piyush Chawla to dismiss at least three batters in each of his first two ODI appearances.

Chawla made his ODI debut for India against Bangladesh in Mirpur on May 12, 2007, and returned figures of 3 for 37 in 10 overs. In his second ODI, played against Ireland in Belfast on June 23, 2007, he once again took three wickets, conceding 29 runs in his 10 overs.
The record for the best bowling figures by an Indian on ODI debut is held by Prasidh Krishna, who claimed 4 wickets for 54 runs in 8.1 overs against England in Pune on March 23, 2021. However, he managed only two wickets in his next ODI against England at the MCA Stadium in Pune on March 26, 2021.
