Pankaj Tripathi is back on the big screen with a film that has plenty of four-legged stars by his side. Ohh My Dog, directed by Amit Rai, arrived in theatres on August 7 and has already caught the attention
of animal lovers and Tripathi’s fans. However, the film’s box office start has been fairly quiet.
According to Sacnilk, Ohh My Dog earned around Rs 85 lakh net in India on its opening day. Its India gross collection stood at approximately Rs 1.02 crore. The film recorded these numbers across 844 shows on Friday.
While the film has received positive reactions on social media, its theatrical release has been on a smaller scale, with fewer screens. The Rs 85 lakh net opening gives Ohh My Dog a modest start, and the next couple of days will be important for the film.
The movie is centred around dogs and their bond with people. It is directed by Amit Rai, who previously helmed Oh My God 2, which also starred Pankaj Tripathi. The new film also plays around with the earlier movie’s title, turning Oh My God into Ohh My Dog.
The film has reportedly been made on a budget of around Rs 8 crore to Rs 25 crore. At the lower end of that range, the opening gives the film a starting point to build on. However, if the reported budget is closer to the higher figure, the movie will need stronger collections over the coming days.
For now, the weekend will be crucial in determining whether Ohh My Dog can pick up at the box office after its opening day.
