Have you ever tried matcha the desi way? Because a street vendor in Lucknow just did and the Internet is absolutely hooked. A video going viral online shows a Lucknow-based vendor throwing out the rulebook
on traditional matcha preparation and embracing a very Indian approach. There is no minimalist Japanese setup and ceramic cup. Instead, this version of matcha is loud and distinctly street-style.
The clip shows a large brass vessel filled with bright green matcha, bubbling gently like a kadhaai of chai. The vendor stirs it with a long steel ladle, steam rising as if he is preparing morning tea for a crowd. The scene instantly grabs attention because it is familiar in the most unexpected way.
What truly seals the deal is how the drink is served. The vendor pours the frothy green liquid straight into a kulhad. Interestingly, the cup made of clay is synonymous with Indian tea stalls. Matcha, usually associated with cafés and curated aesthetics, suddenly feels unapologetically local, looking at the clip.
Internet Responds With Humour
The text overlay in the video reads “Matcha ke Chacha” and “Garmatcha, exclusively in Lucknow.”
Social media users are divided and delighted. One user wrote, “Matcha crying in the corner.” Someone else wrote, “Chicken tikka ki chatni hai yeh.” A person joked, “Ghar ghar matcha yojna.” An individual took it a notch higher with their imagination, “I know someone somewhere in India is thinking about making Matcha pani puri too.”
The jokes did not end there, with a person remarking, “Chemical lag raha hai.” Someone else suggested, “Matcha is not supposed to be boiled like this.” Many, however, showed their creative side, labelling the drink as “Kulchad chai.” Well, looking at the comments, it seems that Internet users are doing half the marketing.
Matcha On Flight
Earlier, a video of a content creator enjoying a freshly made matcha while seated on a plane left the Internet surprised. The woman was seen making the green drink mid-flight, sitting in an economy seat, when she asked for hot water from the flight attendant.
Following this, she takes out a bag of matcha and a brush and starts to whisk the tea in a bowl. With some ice cubes and milk, she completes the drink and takes a joyful sip. The internet flooded the video with comments full of admiration for her.
