“I am confident that under your able leadership, we will continue to take the India-Japan friendship to greater heights,” he added.
Takaichi secured a sweeping win in snap elections held on Sunday, with her Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) clinching a clear majority in Japan’s powerful lower house of parliament.
Japanese media, citing preliminary results, reported that the LDP won 271 seats, comfortably crossing the 261-seat threshold needed for an absolute majority in the 465-member House of Representatives.
Speaking in a televised interview with public broadcaster NHK, Takaichi said she was ready to move forward with her policy agenda.
“We will prioritise the sustainability of fiscal policy. We will ensure necessary investments. Public and private sectors must invest. We will build a strong and resilient economy,” she said.
