The long-pending Missing Link on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was inaugurated on May 1. This project will serve as a key to solving a critical gap on one of India’s busiest highway corridors.
The project
was flagged off by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, which is now open to the public from today, May 2.
However, some have claimed that right after the inauguration of the bridge, it was closed, triggering a congestion.
MNS leader and film director Abhijit Panse shared a video on Instagram from the Mumbai Pune Express way Traffic. In the video, he is seen in the middle of traffic and claimed that post inauguration of the Missing Link Tunnel today it was kept shut.

What Is ‘Missing Link’ Project?
The 13.3-km Missing Link is a newly constructed section connecting Khopoli on the Mumbai side to Kusgaon near Lonavala, designed to bypass the old Bhor Ghat and Khandala stretches, sections known for sharp curves, steep gradients, bottlenecks and accident risks.
Designed to eliminate traffic bottlenecks and safety hazards in the Adoshi Tunnel–Khandala ghat stretch, the project had been under construction since its approval on August 29, 2018, at a cost of Rs 6,695.37 crore.
The project aims to divert traffic away from the winding ghat route, long considered one of the most difficult segments on the corridor.
Once operational, the new alignment will shorten the route by around 6 km and reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune by 20 to 30 minutes, with potentially greater time savings during peak traffic and holiday rush.
