Chennai, Jun 17 (PTI) Accusing the Tamil Nadu government of using a “white paper” on finances to cover up its “administrative failures and unfulfilled electoral promises”, senior DMK leader Thangam Thenarasu
has termed the document a “total flop” and an exercise in “political escapism”.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson had on Tuesday released a white paper on the state’s finances, which faulted the previous DMK regime helmed by then Chief Minister M K Stalin.
“The financial position of Tamil Nadu has already been explained clearly and in detail during the presentation of the state budget,” Thangam Thenarasu said in a post on social media.
The DMK leader alleged that the current dispensation came to power by making “firework-like promises” to the public, but had failed to deliver due to sheer administrative inefficiency.
“Having stepped into deep waters without knowing the depth, this government is now completely unable to fulfill its promises. To hide the fact that its grand assurances have fallen flat, they generated immense hype around a report released in the name of a ‘white paper, which has ultimately turned out to be a massive flop,” he alleged.
According to him, the report was nothing more than a diversionary tactic aimed at deflecting the public wrath. The release of the white paper stemmed from fears that citizens would take to the streets demanding the implementation of promised welfare schemes.
The DMK leader also said that a detailed and comprehensive rebuttal to the report would be issued shortly. PTI SNR SNR ROH
