The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab in the 2027 state elections, BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh said on Monday, amid speculation over
a possible alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Santosh made the statement while addressing the party’s first zonal meeting in Patiala on the first day of his two-day organisational visit to Punjab.
He said the BJP was prepared to bring about a political change in the state and expressed confidence that the party would form the next government.
“Punjab is fully ready for change, and the BJP is fully prepared to make this change a reality. In the upcoming Assembly elections, the BJP will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab and, by securing a victory, will form its government in the state,” Santosh said, according to a party release.
His remarks come at a time when there has been speculation about a possible electoral alliance between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly election.
Santosh was welcomed at the Mohali Airport earlier on Monday by Punjab BJP State President Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon and Punjab BJP Co-Incharge Sardar Narendra Singh Raina.
During his two-day visit, Santosh is reviewing the BJP’s organisational activities and preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections through a series of zonal meetings with party leaders and organisational office-bearers across different regions of Punjab.
The meetings are focused on strengthening the BJP’s organisational structure down to the booth level, according to the party release.
Discussions will also focus on taking the policies of the BJP-led Central Government and its achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to the people of Punjab.
On Monday, Santosh chaired organisational meetings in Patiala and Bathinda.
Further zonal meetings are scheduled to be held in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar on August 25. A separate meeting with the state general secretaries is also scheduled in Amritsar.
The BJP said the meetings are aimed at reviewing the functioning of its organisation across different regions of Punjab and strengthening preparedness for the 2027 Assembly election.
The party also plans to focus on coordination among its organisational units and greater participation of party workers at the grassroots level.
