Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie has raced ahead at the global box office, drawing huge crowds to cinemas. Ever since its theatrical success, viewers have been keenly awaiting its digital release. With Apple
backing the project, the film will eventually be housed on Apple TV+, the company’s official streaming platform.
At the same time, to ensure a wider reach for fans, the makers plan to release it on additional OTT services as well.
F1: The Movie is now available for digital rental. Having already grossed over $500 million worldwide and setting a new benchmark as Apple’s most lucrative theatrical release, the film is now expected to generate further revenue from its online availability.
The film was released for digital rental on August 22 on Prime Video.
Being an Apple Original production, the film will eventually stream on Apple TV+ once its theatrical release winds down. Although the exact premiere date for the platform has not been disclosed, reports indicate it may take place roughly three months after its theatrical launch, which would put the arrival window somewhere between late September and early October 2025.
At the heart of F1: The Movie is the story of Sonny Hayes (portrayed by Brad Pitt), once a star of the Formula 1 circuit in the 1990s, until a devastating crash forced him into early retirement. Decades later, his old teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now the owner of a struggling racing outfit, persuades him to return to the world of motorsport.
This time, Hayes isn’t chasing trophies for himself: his role is to guide rising talent Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) while giving the fictional APXGP team a fighting chance to survive both on and off the track. In guiding Pearce, Hayes is confronted with unfinished business from his own career, pushing him to rediscover his passion for the sport and reevaluate what success truly means.
Blending personal struggle with high-speed racing drama, the film touches on themes of redemption, resilience and self-realisation set against the thrilling world of Formula 1.
The film brings together a powerhouse cast with Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, and Tobias Menzies in key roles. Adding to the big-screen spectacle are the visuals captured by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda, editing from Stephen Mirrione and Patrick J Smith and an impactful musical score composed by Hans Zimmer.
