In the final episode of The End of an Era docuseries, Taylor Swift opened up about one of the most loved moments from her superhit Eras Tour. It was the special fan interaction when she performed her song
“22” on stage. In episode six of the show, the pop star shared why performing the track felt so meaningful to her and explained why she wore that famous black fedora from her Red era.
“The ’22’ moment stems from a hat that I wore on the Red Tour,” the 36-year-old singer said in the episode, as footage of her dressed in a white T-shirt, glittery shorts, and the black fedora played. She explained that she wanted to bring back that feeling from her previous tour, not just for herself, but for her fans. “I wanted to really bring back that moment of just kinda like, have a moment with a fan, where I actually get close with them,” she mentioned.
Taylor Swift Reveals She Never Knew Which Child She Was Going To Meet
The episode then featured a montage in which Taylor would kneel on stage, hug her young fans, and place the hat on their heads amid loud cheers from the crowd. The Opalite singer then revealed that she never knew which child she would meet during her shows. She shared, “I’ve got people in the audience scouring the crowd for the first couple of ‘eras,’ trying to find a kid who knows every single word to the songs and having the time of their life at this show.”
Taylor mentioned that the particular kid would become a representative of every kid in the crowd for that show. She also talked about how differently each child would react when they were brought up on the stage for their special moment with her. “It could be, like, a little kid that gets really shy when all of a sudden they’re seeing 60,000 people for the first time. Or, it could be, there are kids that just like bloom under the bright lights, and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’m a pop star now,'” she said.
Taylor Swift Says Such Special Moments “Remind Me Why I Do It”
For Taylor, these moments felt almost unreal. “Everything’s going on around us, and somehow we’re able to just have this moment be completely between us,” she shared, adding, “We’re just meeting each other, and everyone else kind of disappears for a second. It just reminds me why I do it.”
Over the course of the Eras Tour, Taylor had shared many memorable 22 moments. In November 2024, she gave the hat to a 7-year-old fan named Eloise in Indianapolis, years after promising on Instagram Live that she would meet her one day. In August 2023, she shared a hug with Vanessa Bryant’s daughter Bianka during a Los Angeles show. Earlier that year, in Texas, the singer handed her hat to her BFF Selena Gomez’s younger sister Gracie.
