The Election Commission of India on Tuesday released the draft electoral rolls for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh after completing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, leading to the deletion
of a large number of voter names in both states.
According to official data, more than 42 lakh names have been removed from the voter list in Madhya Pradesh, while over 27 lakh entries were dropped in Chhattisgarh during the revision process.
The publication of the draft rolls comes days after the Election Commission released similar figures for West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where over 1.55 crore voter names were deleted following the revision.
The SIR exercise is aimed at cleaning up electoral rolls by removing duplicate entries, names of deceased voters, and those who have shifted constituencies, while also ensuring greater accuracy ahead of upcoming electoral exercises.
