The meeting comes in the background of the logjam in Parliament over the opposition demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections in the state.
Except discussions in both Houses on Operation Sindoor, Parliament has seen little business ever since the Monsoon session began on July 21.
The prime minister’s meeting with the President also came days after US President Donald Trump announced 25 per cent tariffs on exports from India and an unspecified penalty because of New Delhi’s purchases of Russian military equipment and oil.
On Saturday, PM Modi visited Varanasi and released the 20th instalment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, transferring more than Rs 20,500 crore into the bank accounts of 9.7 crore farmers.
With this release, the total disbursement under the scheme since its inception has surpassed Rs 3.90 lakh crore. The PM-KISAN scheme, launched in February 2019, aims to supplement the financial needs of land-holding farmers. Under the scheme, Rs 6,000 per year is transferred in three equal instalments into farmers’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
During his visit, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth around Rs 2,200 crore in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
On his 51st visit to his Lok Sabha constituency, PM Modi inaugurated the widening and strengthening of the Varanasi-Bhadohi road, Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar road, and the Railway Overbridge at Hardattpur to ease congestion on the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura Road.
