Alia Bhatt’s upcoming Alpha, featuring Bobby Deol, Sharvari, and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles, trended in India on Thursday as cinephiles and social media commentators ridiculed the teaser of YRF’s latest
addition to its spy universe. Then, Dhurandhar was summoned into the social media discourse. Again.
Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar (2025) and Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge (2026) became the first Hindi films to breach the Rs 3,100 crore collections worldwide. While the first instalment earned Rs 1,350–1,428 crore globally, the second offering added a further Rs 1,852 crore to the bank. Beyond the box office numbers, both films struck a deep chord with Indian audiences, who were particularly vocal in their praise for Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of Hamza Ali Mazari and Akshaye Khanna’s electrifying and barbaric Rehman Dakait. Shashwat Sachdev’s synth-led and reimagined classic Bollywood bangers were the perfect cherry on top.
But why did Dhurandhar get a fresh lease of life on X?
Alia Bhatt’s Spy Not Convincing?
Despite being just 1 minute and 55 seconds long, the Alpha teaser gave its 35 million-plus viewers enough to form a clear picture of the film’s basic premise, tone, and overall pitch. And the majority did not like what they saw.
Viewers had several bones to pick with Alpha, here is a quick summary:
Secret Mission Agent With Tattoo: A young Alia is a secret agent who questions her guru about the significance of the permanent ink on her as she embarks upon the excruciating journey to becoming a lethal assassin. Bobby Deol, playing the role of a mentor, informs her about the secret program ‘Alpha’ which is preparing the next generation of soldiers in India.

This particular scene from the teaser was mocked heavily and had a simple question: If it was a mission run by spies and secret underground agents whose entire existence depended on staying invisible, why then would they carry an obvious identifier, a company logo, if you will, on their arms?
Copied Sequence? The scene of Bobby Deol and Alia Bhatt having a meal was immediately flagged by eagle-eyed users who were convinced Alpha had taken cheeky notes from the 1990s French classic La Femme Nikita. The similarities between the storylines of both movies, featuring a young woman being recruited, trained, and transformed into a lethal assassin by a strong mentor figure were also highlighted.
Can YRF ever come up with something original?

Bobby Deol’s Haryanvi Accent: The character of a strong mentor figure played by Deol talks in a deep voice with a touch of Haryanvi accent accompanying his delivery. It wasn’t convincing to native speakers, who wondered whether the likes of Jaideep Ahlawat and Randeep Hooda would have made more sense to portray the Alpha leader’s role.

The purported use of CGI, studio-lit settings, and dramatic camera angles left viewers feeling that the makers were trying “too hard” to create a convincing spy world that looked anything but. Alia’s assassin came across as unconvincing rather than menacing, voices on ‘X’ expressed.
for sure. Even the background of alia bhatt riding the bike looks cheap and vfx generated 🤦♀️#Alpha #Dhurandhar pic.twitter.com/Q2vqfNgUhP

Dhurandhar Returns On X
Jaskirat Singh Rangi, an Indian death-row criminal, is trained and sent to Pakistan as a spy, Hamza Ali Mazari, to breach and dismantle the nation’s terror syndicate. He plays the key role in ‘Mission Dhurandhar,’ described as India’s first espionage operation of its kind. His traumatic past and resentment only make him a lethal weapon who is driven as much by vengeance as by patriotism.
Jaskirat relinquishes his identity to become a person who shall never be identified.
Watching Hamza burn every trace of his identity to YRF legit endorsing spy carrying a tattoo 😭 pic.twitter.com/bUTnPx5XH0

The comparisons between the worlds shown in Dhurandhar and Alpha were made.

It would be interesting to watch how Alpha‘s trailer pans out and is received by the audiences.
