The ruling BJP has decided to go for an extended one-month-long nationwide celebration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday, starting on 17 September.
From J&K to Kerala and Rajasthan to Assam,
the BJP will be following the calendar from 17 September to 17 October. But there is one exception — Uttarakhand, where the celebrations will begin a day before PM Modi’s birth anniversary, on 16 September.
16 September is Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s birthday, when he will turn 51 years old. The state will go to polls in a few months. “In Uttarakhand, the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan will start on 16 September and conclude on 17 October,” confirmed Uttarakhand BJP President Mahendra Bhatt.
“It was thought prudent to start the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan a day earlier, with the thrust on the policies CM Dhami has brought in, and switch to the mandated events from 17 September, like blood donations or Ashirvad Diya,” said a member of the BJP state core group in Uttarakhand, requesting anonymity.
While the focus will remain on Prime Minister Modi’s birthday celebration events, as decided by the party headquarters, for the remaining one month, the state BJP plans to blend in and highlight what it considers the achievements of Dhami’s tenure, said the BJP functionary. This is being done with the upcoming election in mind, he added.
“In Nukkad Nataks or ‘Seva Ki Kahani’, where we will talk about the great work done by our Prime Minister and the lives he has touched in the last 15 years, we will also talk about how Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to bring in the Uniform Civil Code on January 27, 2025. We will remind people of how the Dhami government ensured 30% reservation for Uttarakhand women in government jobs and brought in the anti-copying law — one of his strongest governance measures that was ahead of the current student protests,” he said.
He added that, in many pockets of the state, strengthening the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act, which is another term used for the anti-conversion law, will also be “communicated” during this period.
The BJP is set to organise a month-long series of programmes and outreach initiatives to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, with activities ranging from blood donation camps and cleanliness drives to a nationwide seva campaign and a special youth rally from his birthplace Vadnagar to Varanasi.
As part of the celebrations, several activities will be organised throughout the period, including ‘Angan Milan Seva’ for Anganwadi workers, street plays or nukkad nataks showcasing government policies, and ‘Seva Ki Kahani’ initiatives.
