Petrol and diesel prices have gone up by Rs 3 per litre, and social media users have turned the announcement into meme material within hours. From jokes about fuel being more expensive than emotions to people
saying vehicles now need EMI plans, the internet has been reacting with a mix of humour, sarcasm and frustration.
Many users also pointed out that the increase comes at a time when people are already struggling with rising costs in daily life. Alongside petrol and diesel, CNG prices have also been revised in major cities.
Internet Turns Fuel Hike Into Meme Fest
As soon as the new fuel prices were announced, X (formerly Twitter) was filled with memes, political jokes and dramatic reactions. While some users expressed concern over inflation, many chose humour to deal with the news.
A user sarcastically wrote, “The public has long wondered why the price of petrol and diesel hasn’t increased. Finally, the Indian government has increased the price of petrol and diesel by RS 3. Can We Call its masterstroke.”
Another meme read: “When You realise Save Petrol Drama Made to Justify Price Hike.”
Several users joked about how difficult owning a vehicle may soon become. A person wrote, “bro at this point vehicles should start offering EMI options for fuel.”
Another user compared the increase to a slow build-up and wrote, “BREAKING: Petrol and diesel prices increased by Rs 3/litre, Modi’s masterstroke. So finally, it has begun; it seems like the prices will rise slowly like ‘slow poison’. PS: Prepare for the worst-case scenarios.”
Some users also linked the decision to larger political conversations. A post read, “This is Modi’s Operandi. Whenever a decision that could anger the public has to be announced, he goes on a foreign tour. People’s anger cools down within a couple of days. And by the time he returns, dhol nagade se swagat, as if nothing ever happened.”
Another user summed up the mood online by writing, “So it has started! #Petrol and #Diesel prices hiked by central government. We’ll be cooked.”

CNG Prices Also Revised
Apart from petrol and diesel, CNG prices have also increased in cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
In Delhi, CNG prices reportedly went up by Rs 2 per kg, taking the rate from Rs 77.09 to Rs 79.09 per kg. Mumbai also saw a Rs 2 hike earlier, with CNG now priced at Rs 84 per kg across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The fuel price revision comes amid fluctuations in global crude oil and gas markets, but online, most users seemed more focused on cracking jokes and sharing memes about how expensive everyday travel is becoming.
