C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on May 10, this year, at Chennai’s Nehru Indoor Stadium, marking a major political moment in the state. Along with his oath-taking ceremony, his formal
black suit look also became a major talking point online.
The TVK leader moved away from Tamil Nadu’s long-standing political style of wearing a white shirt and veshti. Instead, Vijay chose a tailored black blazer and trousers paired with a crisp white shirt, a look that many people saw as a bold and symbolic shift.
The Outfit Became Part Of A Brand Campaign
Days after CM Vijay’s oath ceremony, The Chennai Silks shared an Instagram post inspired by his now widely discussed formal look. The textile brand called it the “CM VIJAY Look” and turned the outfit into a complete fashion combo for customers.
The poster featured Vijay standing in a black formal suit against a bright yellow background. At the top, the ad read: “COMPLETE THE LOOK. OWN THE STYLE.”
The brand also highlighted each clothing item separately around him. The combo included a “BLACK SUIT JACKET” labelled “Tailored Fit,” matching “BLACK SUIT TROUSER,” a “WHITE DRESS SHIRT” made from “Premium Cotton,” a “BLACK LEATHER BELT” with “Formal Style,” and “BLACK DRESS SHOES” described as giving a “Classic Look.”
The full outfit package was priced at Rs 3999. The poster also carried phrases such as “PREMIUM QUALITY,” “BEST FIT GUARANTEED,” and “COMPLETE YOUR LOOK.” Another highlighted section stated: “THIS LOOK AVAILABLE IN OUR STORE.”
The caption of the post read, “CM sir combo dress.”

Social Media Users Share Mixed Reactions
The campaign quickly sparked reactions online, with many users calling it smart and timely marketing.
“Great Marketing,” a user wrote, while another joked, “Pls add beard also.”
Some people reacted to the pricing and styling of the combo. “Is there a discount, or is it a fixed price?,” a person asked. Another commented, “2031 Election Dress code.”
Someone else wrote, “This year Diwali dress for many 2k kids.”
At the same time, some social media users questioned whether the company had permission to use Vijay’s image and political identity in the advertisement. “Please take action against such misuse of CM for the profit of private organisation.. Is he a CM or a Social media influencer??” a user commented.
Another wrote, “U guys using Vijay sir face and name for ad do u have permission ??????” while others simply praised the campaign and called it a “good strategy.”
