New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Delhi government is all set to start a cruise service on the Yamuna next month as part of its river rejuvenation and tourism development programme, according to a source.
The
source told PTI that the 40-seater vessel, built in Mumbai and transported to Delhi in January, has since undergone extensive interior work.
He said the cruise is now fully furnished, decorated, equipped, and ready for operations.
The service is expected to be inaugurated by chief minister Rekha Gupta, and will include onboard facilities such as music, entertainment and food services for passengers, he said.
The government will announce the launch date within 15 days.
He said the cruise will operate on the Yamuna, offering hour-long round trips designed to provide a unique recreational experience within the city.
The project forms part of a broader riverfront development plan aimed at transforming the Yamuna into a hub for recreation and leisure. The source said the government is also planning to introduce water sports and other recreational activities at the cruise terminal, creating a more comprehensive leisure zone along the river.
The initiative, he said, is intended to provide Delhiites with experiences comparable to those available in popular tourist destinations such as Goa, without requiring them to travel outside the city, he said.
The objective is to deliver an international-standard experience at affordable prices, making it accessible to a wider section of the public, he said. PTI SHB ASD ASD ASD
