Vir Das, who is all set to make his directorial debut with Aamir Khan Productions’ upcoming film, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, recently shared what it was like to work with the superstar. He appeared
on a podcast on Hook’s YouTube channel and gave insight into how Aamir Khan behaves on set.
Vir Das said, “We’re like we’re going to shoot with Aamir last because we really want to have our shit together and have a tight-functioning unit.” “You’re imagining the day he comes on set, three more vanity vans will be required. Aamir Khan comes half an hour early and uses half a double-door vanity van, with an entourage that he takes care of,” added Vir.
Vir mentioned that when Aamir Khan gave his first shot, the director took a 30-second pause because he didn’t believe that he was directing the superstar. “You’re trying very hard to fanboy. You also realise, in that moment, that some people just have this magical, ethereal thing that they bring on to the screen, which you can see in real time. You’ve shot with the entire cast, including yourself, who do not have that thing (laughs),” Vir said and added, “We improvised with him on an insane level with our suggestions. And he was just super secure.”
Meanwhile, the film’s trailer was released recently. The trailer of Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos takes the fun up a level. It’s filled with humour and quirky moments that hint at a light, entertaining film. Vir Das, both directing and acting, brings his signature comedy style, adding energy, charm, and a youthful feel that builds excitement for the release.
Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Happy Patel is directed by Vir Das, also stars Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi and Mithila Palkar in pivotal roles, and is slated to release in theatres on 16th January 2026. The film marks Imran Khan’s much-awaited comeback on screen. It also reunites Vir Das, Imran Khan and Aamir Khan after Delhi Belly.
