Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) said that gas supply to its City Gate Station (CGS) in Wadala continues to remain affected after “third-party damage” to a key GAIL pipeline inside the RCF premises at Trombay.
The disruption, which began on Sunday, forced several CNG stations across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai to remain shut or operate at minimal pressure. MGL said that while domestic PNG supply remains uninterrupted, only 225 of its 389 CNG stations are currently operational. The company added that repair work is underway and full restoration of gas supply is expected by November 18.
Why The Disruption Was Caused?
According to MGL, the crisis stems from significant damage to GAIL’s main gas supply pipeline located inside the RCF premises in Trombay. The impact of the rupture has been felt across Mumbai’s CNG network because the affected pipeline feeds MGL’s CGS at Wadala- a critical entry point for gas distribution across the region.

Once the Wadala station’s supply weakened, pressure across the MGL pipeline system fell sharply, forcing many CNG pumps to shut operations temporarily. This interruption has triggered a cascading effect on Mumbai’s public transport network, affecting autos, taxis, app-based cabs, school buses and even BEST’s CNG-powered fleet.
What Happens Next?
MGL said that rectification work is currently in progress, with GAIL technicians working inside the RCF campus to restore the damaged section of the pipeline. Normal CNG supply across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai is expected only after pressure stabilises at the CGS Wadala hub. If repairs proceed as scheduled, the company expects complete restoration by today noon. Until then, several CNG stations will continue to operate sporadically and transport services dependent on CNG may experience shortages or delays. Authorities and transport unions are advising consumers to expect continued disruptions through the morning and early afternoon until supply resumes fully.
