Nepal Gen-Z Protests: Gen-Z protesters agitating against the government have occupied the Parliament as the situation escalated sharply in Nepal on Tuesday. The demonstrators also breached the ‘Singha
Durbar’, a key administrative complex in Kathmandu.
Gen-Z protesters broke through the main gates of the Singha Durbar and forcefully entered the premises as security forces attempted to regain control of the situation, according to local reports.
Several ministers resigned as Gen-Z protesters defied an indefinite curfew, clashed with police and vandalised the residences of politicians, including PM KP Sharma Oli’s private home, and government buildings, a day after 19 people died in violent protests triggered by a social media ban.
PM Oli’s private residence was set on fire, while former Nepal PM Prachanda’s house was attacked by an angry mob on Tuesday. Gunshots were also fired near Oli’s residence, which resulted in one person receiving injuries, according to reports. The house of Nepal Minister for Communication, Information and Broadcasting Prithvi Subba Gurung was also set ablaze on Tuesday.
KP Sharma Oli Resigns
As the violent protests continued on Monday, PM KP Sharma Oli stepped down as an Army helicopter was seen at his residence in Baluwatar. This came after several ministers resigned amid widespread public unrest and growing infighting within the ruling coalition after Nepal police opened fire on protesters.
The protests were triggered by a ban on social media apps, but the agitation reignited today despite the apps coming back online.
