British Airways flight BA274 departed from gate E1 and began a full-length take-off from runway 26R at 9.05 pm local time. According to Flightradar24, sparks were visible from the aircraft’s right main landing gear around 40 seconds into the take-off roll, just as the aircraft became airborne.
According to FlightRadar24, the aircraft continued its journey across the Atlantic and landed in London 27 minutes earlier than scheduled.
According to British Airways, the airline is supporting the authorities in their investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
“Safety and security underpins everything we do and we’re supporting the authorities with their investigations,” it said in a statement.
Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) said it was “aware of an incident involving a British Airways aircraft that departed LAS last night and continued on to London, where it landed safely without further incident”.
The tyre was retrieved from the airfield, and there were no reported injuries or damage to airport property, the spokesperson added.
The A350-1000 is equipped with six wheels on each main landing gear, arranged in three pairs. The wheel that detached during the Las Vegas departure was the rear-most outside wheel on the right main landing gear, Flightradar24 reported.
