Safety Inspection of Metro Route Completed
The Chennai Metro’s 14.64-km stretch between Poonamallee and Vadapalani is ready for operations, featuring 11 elevated stations. The corridor has undergone all mandatory tests, while the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation has secured the required clearance after an inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
The route forms part of the 26-km Lighthouse-Poonamallee corridor being constructed under Phase II of the Chennai Metro expansion. The larger Phase II network covers 118.9 km across three corridors. Before receiving clearance, the Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch underwent trials covering signalling systems, track performance, train operations and structural safety.
Initially, metro services on the Poonamallee-Vadapalani route are expected to operate at 10-minute intervals. Around 15 trains are likely to be deployed for regular operations on the stretch.
