War 2 Box Office Collection Day 10: The hype around War 2 promised a roaring blockbuster, but the numbers tell a different story. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the much-anticipated spy thriller from
YRF’s universe opened strongly but has since slowed down, leaving trade watchers concerned about its run.
Numbers slipping fast
After a huge opening weekend, War 2 tumbled on its first Monday. Collections crashed to Rs 8.75 crore, a steep drop from the Rs 32.65 crore Sunday. The film never regained double-digit figures in the days that followed. By its second Friday, the drama had slumped to Rs 4 crore – its lowest single-day haul so far.
Saturday brought only a faint spark of recovery, with Rs 6.25 crore coming in, taking the 10-day domestic total to Rs 214.73 crore. The minor bump, however, hasn’t been enough to change the overall trend, which shows momentum fading quickly.
The casting of Jr NTR alongside Hrithik was expected to set the box office on fire, especially with the Spy Universe brand backing it. But the reality has been underwhelming. With numbers dipping steadily, the film appears to be moving towards the end of its theatrical journey sooner than expected.
Spy Universe hit or miss?
YRF’s Spy Universe has delivered massive crowd-pullers in the past – from Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai to War, Pathaan and Tiger 3. But War 2, the sixth instalment, hasn’t managed to match that winning streak. Even before release, the trailer had drawn flak for its patchy VFX.
Audience disappointment
Once in theatres, feedback only turned sharper. Many pointed out weak writing, flat storytelling and unimpressive effects. News18 Showsha’s review read, “The template is so formulaic that War 2 emerges as a jaded, done-to-death, globetrotting actioner. An espionage thriller is supposed to have a hero, a good guy-turned-arch-nemesis who feels that he has been wronged by a compatriot and a beauty-with-brains kind of a female spy, with dollops of gravity-defying action and a sexy dance number. But where’s the novelty? Where are the layers of storytelling? And most importantly, where’s the thrill? Sadly, War 2 is all style and no ammo.”
