India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma was in trolling mode on Tuesday (September 9) as he sneakily barged into Abhishek Nayar’s room and called him out for being ‘stiff’ at all times. Nayar couldn’t help but
smile, though he did give a nice retort to Rohit, who has been one of his close friends for some time now.
The duo seemed to be in a hotel suite with adjacent bedrooms in a beautiful setting. As soon as Rohit entered the room, he told Nayar to ‘get up’. He went on to say: “That’s Abhishek Nayar, by the way, whether he plays, whether he coaches, whether he’s on his bed, he’s always stiff.”
To this, Nayar responded: “I am flexible when I am coaching.”
The seemingly inside joke between the two Mumbaikars made Rohit laugh cheekily. He then turned to Amit Dubey, a sports physio, and teased him a bit too. Watch the clip here:

Rohit and Nayar are said to be working privately in Mumbai to build up the former’s fitness ahead of the India-Australia ODI series in October. Rohit has retired from Tests and T20Is, and, despite being on the wrong side of his 30s, is said to be determined to push his body as much as possible for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Nayar, on the other hand, also worked extensively with Rohit during his short stint with the Indian team as an assistant coach in Gautam Gambhir’s staff. He was sacked in light of the team’s loss in the Australia series, though he continues to remain a key figure in several players’ lives, not only Rohit.
The likes of Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul also regularly sing his praises and credit him for their batting improvement. During IPL 2025, after a good knock against the Chennai Super Kings, Rohit tagged and thanked Nayar via his social media. Nayar was back with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the middle of the 2025 season, but it remains to be seen if the franchise retains his services for the next season and beyond.
