Mumbai BMC Election Results 2026 Updates: The BJP and Shiv Sena on Friday clinched a massive victory, securing a decisive mandate in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls held on Thursday,
January 15, and setting the stage for grand celebrations by party workers and supporters.
With this, the BJP and Shiv Sena of Eknath Shinde clinch the BMC from the Thackerays who controlled India’s richest civic body for nearly three decades.
The outcome delivered a humiliating setback to Thackerays cousins, who had positioned themselves as the exclusive champions of the Marathi manoos and regional asmita (pride).
Counting of votes for elections to Mumbai and 28 other municipal corporations, including Pune, was held on Friday, a day after the polling saw a 54.77 per cent turnout.
The result signals a major shift in Mumbai’s civic politics, with the BJP, once a junior ally during the undivided Shiv Sena’s rule in the BMC, now emerging as the dominant force, supported by the Shinde-led faction that split from the Sena in 2022.
