Punjab Kings continued their unbeaten run in the IPL 2025 with a massive 54 run win over Lucknow Super Giants at the PCA Stadium on Sunday as they posted to take their season’s tally to 11 points from
6 games.
PBKS piled up a massive 254 against LSG after being sent in to bat, despite a disastrous start when Prabhsimran Singh fell for a golden duck to Mohammed Shami in the first over. From there, Cooper Connolly and Priyanshu Arya rebuilt superbly, taking the attack to the LSG bowlers. The left-handed pair raced to rapid half-centuries and then stepped up the scoring even further. They unleashed a savage assault on Aiden Markram in a 32-run over, with Connolly launching three sixes and Arya adding two more.
Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer lauded the effort of the southpaw duo that took the game away from the opposition.
“It was exceptional, some of the shots were jaw dropping. It takes a lot of courage and composure. When you just let them be, go out and express themselves, they deliver, I don’t tell them how to go about their innings.”
“They have their own set of routine and processess, Ricky talks before the game and I chip in, that’s it.”
“I was just talking to Cooper and Priyansh, we were challenging as to who will hit the most sixes for the season, they are up for it,” he joked.
LSG clawed their way back as wickets began to fall in a cluster: Connolly was dismissed by Prince Yadav for 87, while Siddharth M sent Arya back for 93. Captain Shreyas Iyer managed just 5 before falling to Mohsin Khan, and Nehal Wader was removed by Siddharth for 13.
Shashank Singh contributed a quickfire 17 off 6 balls before becoming Prince’s second victim, and Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a crucial 29 off 16 to carry Punjab to a daunting 254.
In reply, Mitch Marsh and Ayush Badoni provided useful contributions of 40 and 35 respectively at the top, while Rishabh Pant fell just seven runs short of a half-century.
Nicholas Pooran’s poor form continued with a run-a-ball 9, though Aiden Markram kept LSG in the hunt with a brisk 42 off 22 deliveries. Mukul Choudhary added an unbeaten 21 to help LSG cross 200, but the visitors ultimately finished 54 runs short of the target.
