Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has categorically rejected the claims made by senior Congress leader Pawan Khera against his wife, calling them “malicious, fabricated, and politically motivated
lies”.
Khera has alleged that Sarma’s wife possesses three live passports of other countries and, in response, the chief minister accused the Congress of acting out of desperation ahead of the elections.
“These are all baseless and irrelevant allegations. The language in the documents is incorrect, and even the spellings are wrong. There are limits to what can be done with Photoshop. The Congress has realised they cannot suppress me, so they have started producing false documents. I will file a case against this tonight. I will request the Assam police to verify the passports – if they are fake, strict action should be taken against Khera; if they are genuine, action should be taken accordingly. Congress leaders have shown a lack of seriousness – within the same document; they have used different spellings for the same word. They don’t even know how to carry out such deceit properly,” Sarma said.
In his social media post, he said the press conference by Khera reflects the deep frustration and panic within the Congress.
“As Assam moves decisively towards a historic mandate, such desperate and baseless attacks only expose their sinking ground. I categorically reject every allegation made by him. These are malicious, fabricated, and politically motivated lies aimed at misleading the people of Assam. My wife and I will be filing both criminal and civil defamation cases within the next 48 hours against Shri Pawan Khera. He will be held fully accountable for his reckless and defamatory statements… The people of Assam will not be misled by such propaganda. We remain focused, determined, and confident of securing a decisive mandate…” he wrote in his post.
The chief minister also claimed to expose what he called false propaganda of the Congress. He said the documents being circulated show multiple glaring inconsistencies, suggesting a crude and poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation.
“These inconsistencies strongly indicate possible fabrication or digital manipulation. Truth will prevail. Those spreading misinformation will be held accountable. I am confident that Pawan Khera’s campaign of falsehood is nearing its end. Eventually Mr Khera will go to jail,” she said.
Khera had held a press conference in New Delhi, alleging that Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, holds three active foreign passports. He accused her of having passports for the United Arab Emirates, Antigua and Barbuda, and Egypt, displaying what he claimed were copies of these documents.
“Wife of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, has three passports – all of which are currently valid; none have expired. This is the UAE’s Golden Card. Secondly, there is a country called Antigua and Barbuda. Then there is the Arab Republic of Egypt. The entire political career of this chief minister is built on opposing Muslims, yet his wife holds passports from two Muslim-majority countries,” Khera said.
