A simple morning coffee for Basant Maheshwari, an Indian equity investor and author, turned into a memorable experience during his trip to Ushuaia, Argentina’s southernmost city, often described as the ‘End
of the World’.
In a post on X, Maheshwari shared that he prefers stepping out for coffee rather than having it at hotels in all of his visits abroad. During his trip to Ushuaia, he entered a local cafe and found a dog sitting inside.
Maheshwari, being scared of dogs, was hesitant to step inside the cafe. However, the cafe owner, described as “an ever friendly Argentinian”, sensed his discomfort and asked him to come in and sit down. When Maheshwari asked about the dog in English, the shop owner calmly translated his reply into Spanish, effortlessly overcoming the language barrier.
Irrespective of the country I always go out at to buy my coffee rather than have it free in the hotel.
Here in Ushuaia, as I walked into a cafe there was a dog sitting inside and I am scared of dogs.

The most memorable part of Maheshwari’s experience was when he revealed to the cafe owner that he was from India. Upon hearing this, the Argentinian man put on Bollywood songs on YouTube to make him feel more at home. Maheshwari described the moment simply as “Wonderful”.
Several netizens reacted positively to this act of kindness at literally the edge of the world. “Such welcoming gestures make your day. I love to hear such lovely anecdotes,” a user wrote.
“From stepping out for a simple coffee to ending up with Bollywood music playing in Ushuaia… that’s pure magic. This reminds us that warmth and curiosity speak louder than language,” another person wrote.
