British singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran is English club Ipswich Town’s jersey No. 17.
The 34-year-old musician, who purchased a 1.4 per cent share in the English club in August of the year 2024, has served
as the shirt sponsor since the year 2021. The boyhood Ipswich fan was handed the shirt number in a gesture of appreciation at the start of the 2021-22 campaign.
Sheeran, who is one of the best-selling musicians in recent times, was born on the 17th of February 1991, and the jersey serves as a nod to the singer’s date of birth.

Ipswich have allotted the jersey to Sheeran ever since, with the exception of the 2024-25 season in which the Tractor Boys competed in the Premier League.
The PL handbook permits only members of the first-team squad to be assigned numbers, per rule M1, and hence Sheeran had to forego the privilege for the side’s stint in the English top-flight. However, Ipswich did not reassign the number to the players.
The jersey with Sheeran’s and the number 17 have been one of the highest selling shirts for the Ipswich-based unit, serving as an indicator to the love the English singer receives form fans of his boyhood club.
