Three miscreants on Tuesday, i.e., December 30, robbed a farmer of Rs 25 lakhs after throwing chilli powder in his eyes and snatching his bag in Madhya Pradesh’s Ashoknagar district, said the police.
The
incident took place between Tamoia Chakk and Mohri villages when 47-year-old farmer Lakhvinder, a resident of Tamoia Chakk village, was travelling on a bike. He was carrying Rs 25 lakhs in cash to hand it to a relative in Ashoknagar.
According to the police, three men standing on the roadside stopped him. During a brief interaction, they suddenly threw chilli powder in his eyes. One of them quickly snatched the bag containing the cash and fled the scene.
Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Vivek Sharma told the media that the spot was later inspected based on the victim’s statement. The matter is currently under probe, news agency PTI reports.
Meanwhile, the victim also told the police that he had borrowed Rs 24 lakh from his relative Jajji, which he was carrying to return while Rs 1 lakh was meant to be paid to another person.
After travelling some distance from home, he realised that he had forgotten his mobile phone and turned back. During this time, the robbers committed the crime.
According to Lakhvinder, he called for help after irritation in his eyes. A villager noticed him and alerted his family members, after which, he was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Upon receiving information, Kotwali police station in-charge Ravi Pratap Singh Chauhan and Dehat police station in-charge Bhuvanesh Sharma visited the spot. They said that found chilli powder mixed with water was discovered at the scene.
