It is easy to forget that batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is just 15 years old. The manner in which he has fearlessly taken on some of the world’s best bowlers in the ongoing IPL, such as Jasprit
Bumrah, often makes him appear far more experienced than his age suggests.
However, there are moments that serve as a timely reminder that he is still a teenager.
On Monday, during the Rajasthan Royals‘ IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, assistant coach Trevor Penny was speaking on camera when Sooryavanshi, seated in the dugout, playfully drew attention with light-hearted expressions.

It was not an ideal outing for the young batter, though, as he was dismissed for a golden duck – becoming the first IPL wicket of debutant Praful Hinge.
Hinge made a dream start to his IPL career, striking three wickets in his very first over and finishing with figures of 4/34. His performance helped Sunrisers Hyderabad secure a commanding 57-run victory and end Rajasthan Royals’ unbeaten run in the tournament.
Sooryavanshi To Get Maiden India Call-up?
Sooryavanshi made quite a start to his IPL 2026 with two blistering half-centuries in four innings. His impressive run has caught the attention of BCCI selection committee, and a report claims that the opening batter has been shortlisted among the top contenders who could be picked for India’s two-match T20I series against Ireland in June this year.
Should Sooryavanshi make the cut and end up making his debut, he will become the youngest cricketer in Indian history to play at the international level, surpassing the current record holder Shafali Verma.
RR Still Leading IPL 2026 Points Table
Despite the defeat, RR continue to be at the top of the IPL standings with eight points from five matches so far. Punjab Kings, now the only unbeaten side of the season, are second with seven points with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad completing the top four.
