Fans of Rajinikanth in Malaysia were caught in confusion this week after a “Meet & Greet Thalaivar” contest went viral online. The event, promoted by Kuala Lumpur-based Malik Streams, promised winners
a chance to meet the superstar. But just as excitement grew, a PR professional linked to Rajinikanth’s films declared the contest “fake”, sparking a heated exchange.
Rajinikanth Meet and Greet Contest dismissed as ‘unauthorised’
On Saturday, the PR person — who has worked closely on Rajinikanth’s latest release Coolie — issued a warning on X (formerly Twitter).
“Dear All, We would like to clarify that the ‘Meet & Greet Thalaivar’ contest that is currently being promoted by Malik Streams in Malaysia is completely unauthorised, fake, and has been announced without obtaining any prior permission from Thalaivar. We strongly advise fans and the public not to participate or engage in this misleading activity,” the note read.
He also requested that fans spread the clarification so no one would fall victim to what he called a misleading promotion.
Malik Streams hits back
Soon after, Malik Streams released their own statement, rejecting the “fake” label and threatening legal action against those damaging their reputation. “At Malik Streams, we take this matter very seriously. This is not our first time organising contests or events, and our track record speaks for itself,” their note read.
“Any attempt to mislead the public with false information regarding our marketing procedures, or to unnecessarily tarnish reputations, will not be taken lightly. Accordingly, legal action will be issued against those responsible for spreading such misleading and damaging statements.”
A couple of days ago, the distribution firm Malik Streams had put out an announcement poster on its Instagram handle that read, “COOLIE WATCH & WIN CONTEST. The chance of a lifetime: Meet & Greet with Superstar Rajinikanth awaits! All you have to do is: Purchase Coolie movie tickets, Post them on your Instagram feed (public account), Use #COOLIEWW2025.” The announcement poster further said, “Only the Top 3 highest purchasers will win this golden opportunity.”
The sharp exchange has left Rajinikanth’s fans uncertain about whether the contest will move forward — and waiting for official clarity.
