India’s gross goods and services tax (GST) collections rose 22.9% year-on-year to Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October, with revenue from imports growing significantly faster than domestic collections, according
to official data released on Sunday.
Gross revenue from imports jumped 42.2% to Rs 72,246 crore, compared with a 15.8% increase in domestic revenue to Rs 1.59 lakh crore. The figures point to a sharper rise in import-linked GST collections, even as domestic revenue continued to register growth.
The increase in import revenue was particularly pronounced after accounting for refunds. Net revenue from imports rose 56.2% year-on-year to Rs 58,319 crore, while net domestic revenue increased 16.4% to Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
Overall, net GST revenue, after adjusting for refunds, grew 25.6% to Rs 2.03 lakh crore in October. Total refunds during the month rose 6.5% to Rs 27,934 crore.
The October collection comprised Rs 42,935 crore in Central GST (CGST), Rs 51,340 crore in State GST (SGST) and Rs 1.37 lakh crore in Integrated GST (IGST).
The growth in October collections also lifted the cumulative gross GST revenue for the first seven months of the current financial year, from April to October, to Rs 14.78 lakh crore. This represented a 13.2% increase over the corresponding period last year. Cumulative net GST revenue stood at Rs 12.69 lakh crore, up 12.6%.
