The ‘2026 is the new 2016’ trend has been taking over social media, prompting many to look back at the year with warmth and nostalgia. While it brings back happy memories for most, for some, including
Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar, revisiting 2016 is a tender and bittersweet experience.
Sutapa took to Instagram to share a heartfelt reel filled with moments from her life with Irrfan during that year. The video shows the Khan family embracing everyday happiness and milestones, unaware at the time of the tragedy that would follow four years later.
Sutapa Sikdar Recalls 2016
The reel shared by Sutapa begins with a smiling shot of her, followed by clips of Irrfan, candid family moments, and vacation memories. Her caption, however, carries a deeper emotion, starting with the words, “2016!! A lot happened, I smiled a lot as you (Irrfan) were there with a solid permanent pensive look which never made me doubt the in-permanence.”
She added further, “I met Tom Hanks, I went for a girls trip to Goa. Went for Inferno premiere in Florence. You got an NDTV award. We went to the jungles, and we produced Madari.” She ended her caption on a bittersweet note, writing, “2026, tall order isn’t it?” Rasika Dugal and Anup Soni reacted to the post with red heart emojis. Actress Ridhima Pandit commented, “He will forever live on for us. Sending you so much love.”

‘Irrfan Sir Is Still Here’
Irrfan Khan was loved by everyone, and as expected, the comment section under Sutapa’s emotional post quickly filled with heartfelt messages. A user wrote, “Irrfan Sir is still here. A person can only be forgotten if people around them slowly erase them from their memories. Irrfan Khan is irreplaceable. No one can forget him and his craft ever. He lives on.”
Another one added, “Not only you mam, we all witnessed him in real life through his presence on screen through films, interviews or conversations. We all miss him but of course not more than you.” A fan remarked, “Irrfan continues to live on…I am sure he will bless and make the tall order look shorter! If one wants to understand what true love is…one has to look at Sutapa ji and Irrfan ji’s endless love.”
Irrfan died in 2020, and in the years since, Sutapa has continued to remember him by sharing cherished moments from their life together on Instagram.
