India’s first hydrogen-powered train will begin regular passenger service on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana from Sunday, July 19, marking a significant step in Indian Railways’ move towards cleaner
and greener transport.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the train on Friday. The service, themed as the “NaMo Green Rail”, will be operated and maintained by the Delhi Division of Northern Railway.
Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay told Indian Express, “The hydrogen train will commence its commercial operation on Jind-Sonipat route from July 19.”
Route, train numbers and travel time
The hydrogen train will operate as train numbers 74010 and 74009 between Jind Junction and Sonipat.
Developed by the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the train will cover the 89-km route in around two hours with an operational speed of up to 75 kmph. It will run daily from Monday to Sunday as a Hydrogen Fuel DMU.
Station stops
Train number 74010/74009 will run via Pandu Pindara and stop at 14 stations, including the originating and destination stations.
The stations are Jind Junction, Jind City, Pandu Pindara, Lalit Khera Halt, Bhambhewa, Ishapur Kheri Halt, Butana Halt, Khandari Halt, Gohana, Rabhra Halt, Lath Halt, Mohana Haryana, Barwasni Halt and Sonipat.
Ticket price
Passengers travelling on the Jind-Sonipat hydrogen train will pay the same fare as ordinary DMU services.
According to the RailOne mobile app, the ordinary-class fare from Jind Junction to Jind City is Rs 10. Passengers travelling the entire Jind-Sonipat route will have to pay Rs 25 for an ordinary-class ticket.
This means the minimum ordinary-class fare on the route is Rs 10, while the maximum fare is Rs 25.
Timings
Train number 74010 will leave Jind Junction at 7:40 am and reach Sonipat at 9:40 am.
The train will depart Jind City at 7:47 am, Pandu Pindara at 7:55 am, Lalit Khera Halt at 8:08 am, Bhambhewa at 8:18 am, Ishapur Kheri Halt at 8:25 am, Butana Halt at 8:32 am, Khandari Halt at 8:40 am, Gohana at 8:48 am, Rabhra Halt at 8:57 am, Lath Halt at 9:06 am, Mohana Haryana at 9:15 am and Barwasni Halt at 9:26 am before arriving in Sonipat.
On the return journey, train number 74009 will depart Sonipat at 10:40 am and reach Jind Junction at 1:00 pm.
The return service will stop at Barwasni Halt, Mohana Haryana, Lath Halt, Rabhra Halt, Gohana, Khandari Halt, Butana Halt, Ishapur Kheri Halt, Bhambhewa, Lalit Khera Halt, Pandu Pindara and Jind City before terminating at Jind Junction.
The timetable will come into effect from July 19, 2026, with the service operating daily under the ordinary unreserved fare category.
