Jana Nayagan, Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, has finally arrived in theatres after a months-long battle to obtain clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie hit theatres on July
23 and opened to mixed reviews from the public and critics alike. Now, Jana Nayagan’s box office numbers for Day 2 are out, and they show that the movie has faced an impact on its collections.
As per Sacnilk, the film’s total worldwide opening-day collection was Rs 78.27 crore, out of which approximately Rs 42.70 crore net came from India. However, the Day 2 numbers show a huge hit, with about a 50% drop in collections, as the Vijay starrer collected about Rs 21.15 crore net across 12,190 shows. This took the film’s India net collection to Rs 63.85 crore, while its gross collection stands at Rs 75 crore so far. The Tamil version of the movie has been the most profitable for Vijay, followed by the Hindi and Telugu versions. The earnings from the Tamil version stand at Rs 17.95 crore, followed by the Hindi version with total earnings of Rs 1.85 crore, and the Telugu version, where the movie collected Rs 1.35 crore.
Jana Nayagan Review
News18 gave the film 3/5 stars. Our review read, “Director H. Vinoth keeps the narrative accessible, balancing emotional family moments, action sequences, and crowd-pleasing hero elevations. While the screenplay occasionally slips into predictable territory, it maintains enough pace to keep viewers, particularly Thalapathy Vijay fans, invested. Who wouldn’t want to see their hero take on the role of a protector and save the realm one last time?”
“While the message is clear, the screenplay occasionally feels designed around Vijay’s demigod-cum-vigilante image rather than building a layered narrative. The dialogues are powerful in isolation, but some moments feel more like curated political speeches than organic conversations between characters. But if you’re in it for the theatrics, you won’t be disappointed,” the review also mentioned.
