An anonymous bomb threat email triggered panic at a private school in Karnataka’s Bengaluru, prompting authorities to initiate a search operation, using a bomb disposal team and dog squad, said the police
on Wednesday, January 7.
The threat email was sent to the National Public School in the Jayanagar 4th Block area. Demanding 60,000 USD (amounting to approximately Rs 50 lakh), the email warned that “action would be taken if the demand was not met by February 25”.
The sender claimed that four bombs had been planted on the school premises. According to the police, the email was allegedly sent by a person who identified himself as Mohammed Iqbal. Although the email was delivered on January 1, the message came to notice only when the principal checked the email account.
After this, the school management approached the Tilak Nagar Police Station and lodged a complaint. Acting on the information, the police rushed to the spot and initiated a detailed search operation.
A bomb disposal team, along with a dog squad, was deployed at the scene. However, the police said, no explosive materials were found at the premises.
Given that the email mentions February 25 as the deadline, the police have intensified vigilance around the school as the investigation continues to trace the sender.
