The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly descended into chaos on Friday after a ruckus broke out between treasury and opposition benches, with MLAs raising slogans over Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayotallah Ali Khamenei’s
death in joint US-Israeli strikes, while the BJP members held placards to press for a National Law University in Jammu.
Members across party lines disrupted the Question Hour, raising slogans, displaying placards and crowding the well of the House despite repeated appeals for order. The budget session of the assembly resumed in Jammu on March 27 after a five-week recess, following the conclusion of its first leg held from February 2 to 20.
MLAs from the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Congress, CPI(M), Independents and opposition PDP staged protests condemning the killing of Khamenei. Several legislators were seen holding posters and wearing black bands, while slogans against Israel and the United States echoed in the Assembly.

At the same time, BJP members raised counter-slogans such as “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and held placards demanding the establishment of a National Law University in Jammu, further intensifying the confrontation.
JKNC MLA Tanvir Sadiq said that the party and the J-K government stand in solidarity with Iran over the killing of Ali Khamenei.
He said that no country has the right to attack another and urged India’s top leadership to condemn the incident, adding that they are supporting the people of Iran.

While speaking to reporters, Sadiq said, “We are standing in solidarity with Iran. The entire National Conference and the entire government of J&K are standing with them. Just like CM Omar Abdullah condemned the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in civil society earlier, similarly today we are all standing here.”
He further added, “We understand that the way Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, the way he was martyred, no country has any right to attack another country. I think the top leadership of this country should condemn this. Today, we are supporting the people of Iran.”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also criticised the conflict, calling it a violation of international law and appealing for efforts to end the war. He said the situation impacts India as well, citing concerns such as energy prices and the presence of Indian citizens in the region.
“The humanity was murdered by killing Khamenei and others. It’s sad that girl children in a school were killed. I don’t think in recent history we are able to recall such act. We don’t know what’s the aim? If you listen to trump he doesn’t understand why this war on Iran was imposed. Sometimes he speaks about Iran, then strait and much more,” he said in the Assembly.
BJP MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania urged that such international matters be debated at appropriate forums, noting that the Government of India had already expressed its position.

The Speaker remarked that since the Centre had condemned the incident, the House could also discuss it, but the continued disruptions made proceedings difficult.
Outside the Assembly, BJP workers staged protests against the Omar Abdullah-led government over a recent hike in fuel prices in the Union Territory and reiterated demands for a law university in Jammu.
The budget session, which resumed on March 27 after its first phase from February 2 to 20, is scheduled to continue till April 4, with key legislative business lined up in the coming days.
