Kolkata, Apr 6 (PTI) Services on the Blue line of Kolkata Metro were disrupted for half an hour on Monday after a 35-year-old man made a suicide attempt at M G Road station, an official said.
The incident
took place at 11:35 am and the man, who jumped before an approaching train, was immediately rescued by the alert Metro personnel present, a Metro spokesperson said.
Normal services resumed over the entire stretch of the Blue line – between Dakshineswar and Sahid Khudiram from 12.05 am.
In the meantime, truncated services operated between Maidan and Sahid Khudiram and DumDum-Dakshineswar stations.
The youth was rushed to hospital.
On April 4, in a similar incident, a 40-year-old woman jumped on the tracks at Kalighat station and was rescued after the motorman stopped the train on time.
There had been similar suicide bids in the Blue Line section in past.
The Metro authorities are regularly making announcements on public address systems at stations in the Blue Line – where such suicide attempts have been made – to think about near ones and how a hasty decision will put an end to all hopes and possibilities in someone’s life and approach the counsellors whose numbers are displayed in the anti-suicidal campaigns put up in different parts of the platform.
