Summer is gradually making its presence felt across the country, with winter slowly retreating and temperatures beginning to climb in several major cities. Cities like Delhi, Patna and Bhopal are already
witnessing a steady rise in daytime temperatures. However, before the full intensity of summer heat takes hold, rain activity has commenced in a number of states, making the weather increasingly unpredictable.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the next 24 hours could bring rain, hail and strong winds to several parts of the country. Wind speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are likely in some areas, raising concerns over potential disruption. Lightning strikes and sudden drops in temperature have also been forecast in certain regions. The changing conditions are being attributed to active western disturbances along with local weather systems.
The IMD has further indicated that many states may experience clouds, thunder and rainfall simultaneously, while hilly regions have been placed under a snowfall alert. In the plains, temperatures could dip by 2 to 3 degree Celsius, offering temporary relief from rising heat but also causing inconvenience. Dense fog, gusty winds and fluctuating temperatures are expected to define the current spell of unsettled weather across the country.
Rain, Thunder, And Hail In Several Regions
Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Lakshadweep may witness rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. In some areas, hail is a particular concern for farmers, potentially affecting crops.
Fog is returning in North India, which may create difficulties for residents. Visibility could be poor across several districts, impacting road and rail travel. The weather department advises extra caution during morning and night hours.
Delhi-NCR: Clear Skies For Now
Delhi-NCR is expected to remain clear and dry for the moment, with no signs of rain in the coming days. Temperatures will rise gradually, making afternoons feel warmer, while mornings and evenings will remain pleasant. Light winds of 8 to 10 kilometres per hour may slightly improve pollution levels. Maximum temperatures are likely to increase by 1 to 2 degree Celsius over the next two to three days.
The shifting weather is prompting residents to transition from warm clothing to lighter attire.
UP: Stable Weather With Morning Chill
Weather in Uttar Pradesh will remain generally stable, with little chance of rain. Western and Terai regions will experience cold mornings with light fog, and temperatures may drop by 1 to 2 degrees in districts including Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, and Bareilly.
As the day progresses, strong sunlight may bring mild warmth. In Uttarakhand’s mountain areas, the weather could change, with light rain and snowfall at higher elevations, making it colder again. Slippery roads are possible, so travellers are advised to exercise caution.
Bihar: Dry Weather, Gradually Rising Temperatures
Bihar is likely to remain dry over the next 24 hours, with minimal chances of rain. Temperatures will rise slowly, making afternoons feel warmer. Maximum temperatures in Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Siwan, and Samastipur may reach approximately 29°C.
Mornings and nights will continue to feel slightly chilly.
Jharkhand: Fog And Light Rain In Some Districts
Certain districts in Jharkhand may experience fog and light cloud cover in the mornings. Light rain or drizzle is possible in Gumla, Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, and Ramgarh.
These conditions will keep temperatures moderate, and residents will notice a clear difference between day and night temperatures.
Punjab And Haryana: Dry, But Foggy
Dry weather will continue in Punjab and Haryana, though fog may pose challenges. Dense fog is expected in Amritsar, Patiala, Faridkot, Firozpur, and Gurdaspur, reducing visibility and affecting both road and rail travel. Drivers are advised to exercise extra caution during morning hours.
Haryana will experience clear conditions during the day, but cold winds in the mornings and evenings will make it feel chilly. Temperatures will remain largely steady, but the overall trend points towards warmer weather.
HP And Jammu & Kashmir: Rain, Snowfall, And Cold
In Himachal Pradesh, changes are expected on February 26 and 27. Rain and snowfall are likely in Manali, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan, with colder temperatures and more chill during mornings and evenings, particularly at tourist spots.
In Jammu and Kashmir, higher-altitude regions may see snowfall, while the plains remain dry. Temperatures are expected to fall in Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramulla. Health experts advise children and the elderly to protect themselves from the cold.
Madhya Pradesh: Rain, Hail, And Thunderstorms
Weather may shift again in Madhya Pradesh, with rain and hail possible in Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Dhar, Bhind, Morena, and Shivpuri. Thunderstorms and strong winds may cause concern for farmers.
Bhopal’s temperatures may be slightly above normal, but cloudy skies will maintain a pleasant atmosphere.
Rajasthan: Stable Conditions
The influence of western disturbances in Rajasthan has weakened, making rainfall unlikely. Partial cloud cover may appear in Jaipur, Udaipur, Kota, and Bharatpur, with daytime temperatures around normal.
Tamil Nadu: Active Weather Continues
Southern districts of Tamil Nadu will continue to experience active weather, with light to moderate rain expected until March 1. Clouds and occasional showers are likely in areas such as Shivalogam, Kuzhithurai, and Surulakod. Coastal areas will feel humid, creating a muggy atmosphere.
Chennai will be warm and humid, with maximum temperatures around 30°C and minimums near 23°C. Evening sea breezes may provide some relief, but daytime heat and humidity will remain uncomfortable.
Areas Most Affected By Weather
The states most impacted include eastern Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and coastal Andhra Pradesh, where rain, lightning, and strong winds will be most intense. Farmers in wheat, mustard, and vegetable-growing regions may face losses due to hail and strong winds and are advised to take precautions.
Temperatures in affected areas may drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, while the plains of northwest India may see rising temperatures next week.
Travel in hilly areas during rain and snowfall can be hazardous, so it is advisable to check weather updates and follow official guidance before planning any trips.
