Akshaye Khanna is trending across the internet thanks to Dhurandhar’s viral song Fa9la. Fans on Instagram and YouTube are captivated not only by the track but also by Akshaye’s dramatic entrance and striking
look.
However, this magic isn’t accidental; there’s meticulous work behind the scenes that makes a scene go viral. A recent Instagram post revealed some of these secrets, with Dhurandhar’s costume designer, Smriti Chauhan, breaking down Akshaye’s iconic Sher-E-Baloch look from the song.
Akshaye’s Viral Look From Dhurandhar Decoded
Akshaye’s impromptu dance may have stolen the spotlight in the Flipperachi-sung song, but his look was anything but spontaneous. Smriti Chauhan decoded the ensemble, revealing the thought and effort that went into creating a look that truly stood out.
Smriti shared that one thing she and her team were certain about for the Dil Chahta Hai actor’s look in the song was that it would be an all-black ensemble, ensuring he remained the centre of attention. She also revealed that though the colour of the pagdi was a point of discussion, they eventually chose white, allowing the black-and-white contrast to stand out amidst the vibrant colours surrounding Akshaye in the song.

More About The Silhouette
Talking about the silhouette, costume designer Smriti Chauhan revealed that the team wanted Akshaye’s look to stay true to Balochi culture, which is why they chose a traditional Balochi Pathani style. Keeping Akshaye’s frame in mind, they paired it with a semi-Balochi salwar crafted from six meters of fabric.
For the kurta, Akshaye wore a slim-fit black piece with a Chinese collar, featuring shirt cuffs on the sleeves and suede piping along the collar-hem, and a button placket. The kurta also included a leather double-line patch on the cuffs and pockets, with metallic black matte buttons, adding subtle detailing that elevated the overall look.
When it came to the fabric, the designer opted for a silk-wool blend, deliberately steering clear of traditional silks.
Smriti also shared that she initially loved the idea of a Nehru jacket for Akshaye’s look, but they eventually settled on a bandhgala, which suited the outfit perfectly. The final, crucial touch was a black Pashmina stole, adding an extra layer of finesse to the ensemble.
A great deal of effort went into crafting Akshaye’s look, and it clearly paid off; after all, it has become one of the most talked-about elements of the film.
