A powerful dust storm swept across Rajasthan’s Bikaner on Saturday afternoon, engulfing parts of the city in a massive wall of dust and dramatically reducing visibility.
Videos shared from the area showed
strong winds carrying thick clouds of dust through streets, turning the sky a deep orange-brown and forcing residents to seek shelter indoors. Trees swayed violently as gusty winds swept through the region.
The dust storm is part of a broader spell of unstable weather affecting northwestern India, where intense heat has been followed by strong winds, dust storms and isolated rainfall activity in several areas.

Meteorologists have warned that such dust storms are common during the pre-monsoon season in Rajasthan, particularly when hot desert winds interact with changing weather systems over north India.
No immediate reports of major injuries or significant damage were available. However, authorities advised residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of low visibility and stay indoors whenever possible.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued weather activity across parts of Rajasthan over the coming days, with thunderstorms, gusty winds and dust-raising conditions likely in isolated areas.

The dramatic visuals from Bikaner come as several northern states experience a transition from severe heatwave conditions to more volatile pre-monsoon weather, bringing temporary relief from soaring temperatures but increasing the risk of dust storms and thunderstorms.
