Jamie Overton once again showcased his raw pace during Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, producing
a moment that left both players and spectators stunned.
MI batter Tilak Varma was struck painfully on the wrist by one of Overton’s sharp deliveries, with the impact powerful enough to knock his fitness tracking band clean off his hand.

The incident occurred off the final delivery of the 12th over, shortly after Overton was introduced into the attack. Bowling at high pace, the England all-rounder tested Tilak with a short ball. Attempting an audacious scoop shot, Tilak shuffled across his stumps but failed to connect properly. Instead, the ball crashed directly into the wrist area where he was wearing a fitness tracker.
The force of the blow sent the device flying onto the ground, immediately drawing concern from the crowd at Chepauk. Replays later confirmed that the accessory was a WHOOP fitness tracking band, reportedly valued at around Rs 28,000. Fortunately for Tilak, the band survived the impact without major damage, and he was also able to continue after receiving brief treatment.
The dramatic moment quickly spread across social media, with many fans reacting to the sheer pace generated by Overton. While Tilak tried to carry on positively after the blow, his stay at the crease proved short-lived. Just two deliveries later, the left-hander was dismissed for 5 runs after mistiming an attempted sweep shot, with Ruturaj Gaikwad completing the catch.
CSK Beat MI
Mumbai Indians endured a difficult outing overall as their batting unit struggled to build momentum throughout the innings. Naman Dhir provided the only major resistance with a fighting 57 off 37 balls, while captain Hardik Pandya managed a laboured 18 from 23 deliveries. Mumbai eventually finished on 159/7, a total that proved insufficient as Chennai Super Kings chased down the target comfortably to register an emphatic victory.
