Bumrah opened his wicket account on Sunday by breaching Quinton de Kock’s defence on the fifth ball of his first over. The legendary left-handed wicketkeeper-batter could only manage to score 6 runs from 7 balls.
In his second over, Bumrah picked up Ryan Rickelton’s wicket. Rickelton, who shares a dressing room with Bumrah in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians, was caught by Shivam Dube on the sixth ball.
Bumrah’s third wicket came in the form of Corbin Bosch. He caught Bosch off his own bowling in the 19th over of South Africa’s innings.
Apart from Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh also dismissed two South African batters. The couple of wickets by the left-arm pacer helped him equal Ashwin’s tally.
Arshdeep has 32 wickets to his name in 18 T20 World Cup matches for the 2007 and 2024 champions.
