Only one of 15 India-Afghanistan matches was washed out, a T20I in October 2023, and two more games were tied.
The first tied game was an ODI in the 2018 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India, under MS Dhoni’s leadership, conceded 252 runs to Afghanistan, courtesy of opener Mohammad Shahzad’s brilliant 124 off 118 balls. In the second innings, Ravindra Jadeja became the final wicket to fall on the penultimate ball. There was no Super-Over allotted for this match.
The next tied game made up for that by having two Super-Overs. In a bilateral T20I at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2024, skipper Rohit Sharma’s 121 off 69 and Rinku Singh’s 69 off 39 took India to 212/4 in the first innings. For Afghanistan, the entire top three scored a half-century each to tie the match.
Afghanistan scored 16 runs in the first Super-Over against Mukesh Kumar, which India tied thanks to Rohit’s two sixes. In the second Super-Over, India batted first and made 11 runs, and this time, they sent Ravi Bishnoi for the second innings, who took two wickets in the first three balls to seal the win for India.
The only team that comes close to India’s 15-match unbeaten streak in men’s cricket is New Zealand, with the Blackcaps securing 13 wins in as many matches against Ireland. Uganda also had 15 wins in 15 matches over Nigeria in the four-year-long span between 2021 and 2025.
For India, the second-best ongoing streak is 11 unbeaten matches against Ireland. The Men in Blue will travel to Ireland for T20Is later this month.
