Fitness trainer Vinod Channa recently recalled helping actor Shilpa Shetty lose weight after her pregnancy. Shetty, who is married to businessman Raj Kundra, is the mother of two children: son Viaan Raj Kundra and
daughter Samisha Shetty Kundra.
Vinod Channa revealed that the actor had gained 35 kilos following childbirth. However, the weight was reduced within three months through natural methods.
“People think she did something. What about the effort that we put in for three months? Everything is natural. Those who exercise don’t need anything else…Their bodies react fast anyway. I have not given them any stuff that may adversely affect them,’ the fitness coach said while talking to lifestyle website Hindi Rush.

Dismissing rumours of surgery, the coach maintained that he was able to train the actress to lose weight naturally, learning from his own experience. “I have lost and gained weight 30 times, so every time you come to know your past mistakes,” he explained.
Shilpa On Her Weight Gain
In March 2025, Shetty opened up about her weight gain after giving birth to her son Vivaan in 2012. During an interaction with Kareena Kapoor Khan, she revealed that had followed a strict routine to lose weight. She tried a low-carb, no-carb diet to shed the excess weight, which worked well for her. However, she emphasised that carbohydrates are important for maintaining overall well-being.

Pregnancy And Weight Loss
Dr Richa Bharadwaj, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, recently told the Indian Express that post-pregnancy weight loss varies widely. She stressed that recovery, hormonal balance, strength and emotional well-being matter more than how quickly weight is lost.
According to her, losing weight quickly can “ impact mental health, especially at a time when women are already adjusting to significant physical and emotional changes.”
In medical terms, natural weight loss involves gradual changes rather than extreme methods, she stressed. The doctor also emphasised on maintaining a balanced diet and adequate rest, while focusing on stress management to support health.
“Breastfeeding may increase calorie use, but it should never be seen as a weight loss tool. The postpartum body needs nourishment to heal and function well,” Dr Bharadwaj noted.
The first six weeks after childbirth should be focused on recovery. During this time, only light activity like walking should be undertaken ,and mothers should avoid structural exercises without medical clearance.
