Border 2 producer Nidhi Dutta has slammed those running alleged paid negative campaigns on social media against Varun Dhawan. On Thursday, Dutta took to her X handle and called those doing such tactics
‘anti-nationals’.
It all started after an X account named CineHub posted, “The LATEST TARGET of this paid smear campaign is #VarunDhawan‼️ Certain Instagram influencers are clearly doing this on instructions, running a full-fledged agenda to malign Varun in #Border2…From BODY-SHAMING to selectively targeting his expressions, everything feels forced !! especially when his performance is actually perfectly suited for the film✅ This dirty game needs to STOP because no matter what #Border2 is gonna take BUMPER START EVERYWHERE.”
Reacting to the post, Dutta wrote, “Congratulations to all the ANTI NATIONALS THAT CAN PAY TO BRING DOWN AN ACTOR PLAYING A PVC OF THIS COUNTRY. This is YOUR FILM INDIA! Hope the audiences find and shame these people (sic).”

This comes hours after a viral Reddit post claimed that social media influencers are being paid to post negative reviews about Varun Dhawan ahead of the release of Border 2.
For the uninitiated, Border 2 features Varun Dhawan as Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya PVC, who led his troops with unflinching courage during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War and was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour, for his heroism.
During the song launch of the film, Varun emphasised that films like Border serve a larger purpose beyond entertainment, helping young audiences understand the importance of national security, sacrifice, and preparedness. According to Varun, such stories remain relevant because they reinforce the idea that peace must be protected with strength.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 also stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, and is scheduled to release in theatres on January 23, 2026.
